Graphic & SPOT Designer / Director of Marketing

We are looking for someone to join our team as a Graphic Designer / Director of Marketing to help develop the SPOT images and our brand awareness. This will involve:

What you'll be doing: ​

You'll be designing SPOTs for us and working with our customers to turn around new and creative colour changing concepts that they will be thrilled to purchase. We want you to turn these designs into a portfolio onto our website, showing our customers what is possible and how they can get involved with SPOTs. You will also be interfacing with our manufacturer, helping them prepare SPOTs for printing. In your down time, you'll be our marketing department: creating beautiful campaigns and infographics to create inbound sales interest through our social and professional platforms.

​Expect to be Involved with:

  • Engaging and growing our social media community (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest)
  • Communicating with bloggers, especially in technology and parenting
  • Search engine optimization (SEO) and search engine marketing (SEM)
  • Testing content and campaigns to improve conversion rates and optimize performance
  • Work with members of the Suncayr team to help align marketing priorities and programs with the product and business roadmap
  • Write PR releases and briefs
  • Prepare PR campaigns
  • Marketing automation and customer relationship management (CRM)
  • Data & metrics tracking and A/B testing

Extra Skills:

  • Possess a university degree or college diploma in business, marketing, Public Relations or related field

Senior Materials Scientist

We are looking for an expert in polymers, chemistry, and materials science to join our team to lead the development of future skin mimicking technologies.

We are looking for a candidate who will:

  • Lead the development of our skin-mimicking technology.
  • Oversee supply chain, quality control and quality management of our current technology.
  • Lead an interdisciplinary student team to advance SML technology.
  • Coordinate university and industry collaborations needed for development.
  • Facilitate seamless implementation of recent developments into our manufacturing process.
  • Work with the team to identify future market applications for SPOT and Suncayr's developing technologies.
  • Maintain the willingness and flexibility to support the entire team across all functions when needed.
  • Actively participate in and represent SPOT and Suncayr at networking events, collaborator and investor meetings, etc.

Candidate will need to have:

  • A university degree (Master or higher) in engineering, chemical engineering, polymer chemistry or related field of study.
  • PhD preferred but not required.
  • Extensive knowledge in modification and characterization of biologically relevant polymers, oligomers and films.
  • Strong background in materials sciences, preferably in polymers synthesis and processing.
  • Experience (2+ years) with characterization of non-covalent interactions or surfaces.
  • Industrial experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with different aspects of biology or anatomy preferred.
  • Critical thinking skills and the ability to analyze ongoing strategies while integrating and making changes accordingly.
  • Ability to learn fast and adapt within an evolving start-up environment.
  • Experience working cohesively within smaller teams.
  • Proven record of working independently, setting and achieving own milestones.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

About the contract and location

The position will be primarily in the Velocity Science Lab in Waterloo with the goal to move operations entirely to Toronto by fall 2017. At the candidate's preference, different options can be negotiated. Your expertise will help us evaluate and develop our current SML technology, as well as diversify and apply SML technology for future technologies to expand Suncayr’s product offering. We believe SPOT will completely change people's sun protection behaviour and encourage better skin care, and SPOT has the potential to create a whole new category for the sunscreen industry.

Sales Lead

The successful candidate will develop and lead the sales and marketing strategy at Suncayr to help introduce our product into market. Candidate will need to identify, qualify, and sell Suncayr and our products to prospective customers.

  • Lead the development of Suncayr’s sales process and launch strategies for SPOT (short-term and long-term).
  • Identify potential market segments and channels, and candidate customers in those segments and channels.
  • Connect with our customers to brand and sell Suncayr and SPOT.
  • Maintain relationships with customers for feedback and future sales.
  • Prepare and update sales and marketing projections.
  • Analyze progress, re-evaluate current strategy, and implement improvements to the sales process.
  • Work with the team to identify future market applications for SPOT and Suncayr's developing technologies.
  • Capacity and flexibility to support the entire team across all functions when needed.

Candidate will need to have:

  • A university degree or college diploma in a business, sales, or marketing field of study.
  • Ability to learn fast and adapt within an evolving start-up environment.

About the contract and location

This is a 6-month contract position through the MaRS Embark program, with possibility (and hope) for extension into a full-time position after the contract.

The job will be primarily in the MaRS Discovery District in Toronto, though can also be based in Kitchener-Waterloo, at the candidate’s preference.
